What I've Learned About Wellness from Hispanic Culture

I’ve always been enthralled with Hispanic culture. When I was growing up, I loved the Spanish language and was lucky enough to have a close friend who lived in Guatemala. Each time she’d come to visit, I loved hearing stories about her homeland, and was excited to wear whatever Mayan inspired clothing and jewelry she brought with her. It always made me feel welcome, the way she greeted everyone with a hug and a kiss rather than a handshake. From her I learned about refried beans, avocado with salt and lime, and of course fresh fruit with every meal. Throughout the years, my interest in Hispanic culture grew, and I've been lucky enough to meet wonderful people from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, Spain, and other countries - and they were all more than happy to share their food, traditions, and culture with those around them. 5 Non-Scale Victories to Celebrate Right Now

Mid-January is a tough time for a lot of people. In most of the northern hemisphere the weather is dark and grey, holiday bills are starting to roll in, and on top of that, you feel like you’re not making any progress on your weight loss journey. It’s been two weeks! Shouldn’t I have lost at least a few pounds by now? Not necessarily. Read More

10 Questions to Set You Up for an Awesome 2017

Ah, a brand new year. Full of possibilities and excitement. Like with all transitions though, that excitement often carries with it seeds of apprehension and intimidation. “What if it doesn’t work out? I’m wrapping up my Whole30 this weekend, and if I’m being honest, I’m so glad it’s coming to an end. Read More

Why Is My Man Losing Weight Faster Than I Am?!

Jason and I both started our first Whole30 on Monday. It’s been seven full days, and I’ve noticed mood swings, cravings, fatigue, and even flu-like symptoms. What I haven’t noticed? Washboard abs, boundless energy, and all the good things that (eventually) come with making healthier choices. As for Jason? Well, he’s voiced a few cravings here and there, but overall he’s feeling good and looking leaner (already!). What gives?! Read More

How and Why I'm Spring Cleaning my Diet this April

Spring is the perfect time of year to spring clean not only your house, but also your diet. If you’re anything like me, you probably indulged quite a bit over the holidays last year, and you may not have “gotten back on track” since then. With the (hopefully) warmer weather of April, foods like salads, smoothies, and fresh seafood will start to look more appealing. Read More

How to Start 2016 off on the Right Foot

Although it’s difficult to measure, it’s estimated that 92% of New Year’s Resolutions fail. Why? My own personal guess is that most people think in vague terms of “I want to be healthier” or “I want to lose weight.” Naturally this is difficult to achieve, because you can’t measure it, there’s no timeline, and it has no real meaning. The vast majority of us want to “be healthier” but what does that really mean? Read More
