I'm Not Where I Thought I'd Be

I’m not where I thought I’d be. Like a lot of women, I assumed that by the time I turned 30, I’d have the perfect husband, the perfect home, 2 perfect little kids, and - of course - the perfect job. I was sure I’d have it all together, and naturally be healthy and in fantastic shape to boot. Ha! Read More

What I've Learned About Wellness from the Moroccans

In my 10 days here, I’ve gotten a glimpse into everyday life for Moroccans. I’ve seen colourful and chaotic markets, families riding donkeys along the side of the road, and men languishing in the afternoon sun for hours, with a cup of mint tea and a cigarette. Of course smoking isn’t healthy, but in a lot of ways the Moroccans seem to be ahead of North Americans when it comes to overall wellbeing. A few things have stood out for me, and I’ll likely be implementing them in my own life once I’m back home. Read More

What I've Learned about Body Image from Working at lululemon

I recently took on a management position at an awesome location in Houston, Texas. It’s a perfect parallel to my health coaching practice, and it’s provided great opportunities to get out of my comfort zone, learn new things, and build community. It’s also given me a lot of insight into how women feel about their bodies, especially when trying on clothes. Read More

A Man's Perspective on Aging, Fear, and Letting Go

Elisabeth has asked me to write a guest blog post again this week. We quite often discuss our unique perspective on the U.S.A., being from a neighbouring country and all. Though some of you might think that Canada is just America-but-north (North?)... well, you'd be wrong - for reasons I’ll get into later. Read More

Why Is My Man Losing Weight Faster Than I Am?!

Jason and I both started our first Whole30 on Monday. It’s been seven full days, and I’ve noticed mood swings, cravings, fatigue, and even flu-like symptoms. What I haven’t noticed? Washboard abs, boundless energy, and all the good things that (eventually) come with making healthier choices. As for Jason? Well, he’s voiced a few cravings here and there, but overall he’s feeling good and looking leaner (already!). What gives?! Read More

How and Why I'm Spring Cleaning my Diet this April

Spring is the perfect time of year to spring clean not only your house, but also your diet. If you’re anything like me, you probably indulged quite a bit over the holidays last year, and you may not have “gotten back on track” since then. With the (hopefully) warmer weather of April, foods like salads, smoothies, and fresh seafood will start to look more appealing. Read More

10 Tips for Eating Healthy on a Budget

A few weeks ago, I wrote a post about organic shopping for beginners. The thing is, eating whole, organic, fresh foods CAN get pretty pricey. Right now, unhealthy foods are heavily subsidized, and this creates an incentive to buy them. But we all know that this has long-term side effects, including higher health-care costs and a lower quality of life. So this week I want to share some tips with you on how to maximize your pocketbook and your health. You don’t have to give up one to have the other! Read More

How I Learned to Love My Body. And Myself.

My latest program is called Love Your Body. Helping women love their bodies is obviously something I feel strongly about, and it’s probably because I didn’t always love mine. Not by a long shot. Not too long ago, I was feeding it junk food, junk thoughts, and junk sex. And on top of that, I was judging myself for it. Not a great combination. Today though, I can honestly say I love my body and do my best to treat it well. Here's the story of how I got to be where I am today. Read More

What I Gained From Doing a 25 Day Yoga Challenge

I recently completed a 25 day yoga challenge, where I took 25 classes in 25 days. Prior to the challenge, I’d been practicing roughly 2 - 3 times a week, and I naively thought it would be easy. I found out by day 7 that #yogaeverydamnday is actually quite a feat to accomplish, especially if you’re practicing the physical form of yoga (asana), as opposed to one of the 7 other “limbs”. It took some doing to hang in there and make it to day 25, but now that it’s behind me, I want to share with you what I gained from the experience: Read More

Interview with a European Fashion Model

This week I’ve decided to share a mini mid-week post with all of you! Lucky for me, I know some really interesting people, and one of those people happens to be my cousin, Julia, who is a fashion model in Europe. A woman of many talents, she is also a competitive dancer, and has won such titles as “Miss Salzburg 2006” and “International Model of the Year Austria 2006”, among others. Oh, and she also happens to be trained as a lawyer. We were talking about life and health recently, so I decided to ask her a few questions, and she was kind enough to agree to a short interview. Here’s what she has to say about modelling, staying in shape, and what her guilty pleasure is! Read More
